One thing to keep in-mind is that Ampex's initial KM development and testing program indicated to them that MR and KM are not mutually exclusive. That is to say that the real possibility exists that they may be able to combine the two technologies to make an even greater leap in disk densities. This fact was mentioned by Bramson, mr. overly cautious, at the anuual meeting this past June; this was confirmed by a very good friend of mine who attended the meeting personally.

Its interesting to note that IBM, the current biggest proponent of MR, is supplying platters for the current KM tests. Why would they supply platters for KM if it could be a competing technology? There's obviously more than meets the eye here.

Just my two cents worth.
