Some PR from CMPC:
CompuCom, Compaq and Computer Associates to Deliver Rapid Deployment Systems Management Program
NEW ORLEANS--
New Program Leverages CompuCom Distribution Engine to Deliver
Unicenter TNG Enterprise Management Technology, Reducing
Deployment Time and Providing Faster ROI
CompuCom Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CMPC), a leading network integration company, announces the formation of the Rapid Deployment Systems Management (RDSM) Program, an offering that delivers pre-configured and readily usable systems management technology to its customers.
The offering, made possible by an alliance with Compaq Computer Corporation and Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA), has resulted in a substantial value-added bundle for customers wishing to lower operating and ownership costs. The program enables customers to get a jump-start on realizing enterprise management value without a substantial investment or a long engagement process. Additional tangible benefits are provided by a combination of options designed specifically to allow customers to leverage their own experience levels.
Customers can purchase pre-configured and tested Unicenter(R) TNG(TM) Management Probes from CompuCom. The Probes are robust Compaq systems with TNG already configured and optimized by CompuCom's most senior Enterprise Systems Management (ESM) Engineers. This saves customers substantial time, regardless of experience levels, by enabling deployment to be part of an in-progress rollout or to be the first step towards a full enterprise management solution. To quickly start managing the network using Unicenter TNG, Probes can be initialized either on-site by customers or remotely by CompuCom's ESM Control Center. The remote configuration capability leverages CompuCom's experience, allowing customers to get substantial and near-immediate benefits from Unicenter TNG without having any previous experience or paying the high consulting fees normally associated with this process.
This combination of lower entry cost, rapid deployment and leading technology allows customers to realize results in a realistic and progressive fashion. Additional capabilities using Unicenter TNG modules and CompuCom Consulting services can be applied logically, with a return on investment realized throughout the process instead of potentially being realized only after a long engagement. Utilizing the Compaq professional server and workstation platform ensures performance, reliability and scalability as Unicenter TNG performs its critical role in maintaining system availability.
"CA is very excited to be working with our partners, CompuCom and Compaq, to provide customers with an end-to-end enterprise management system that is easily deployed for NT environments," said Peter McKay, CA senior vice president of business partner programs. "CompuCom is providing a new way for customers to get started with the Unicenter TNG family of products very quickly and easily, yet still retain all the scalability and flexibility they need to tailor their own management solutions, as their businesses evolve and grow."
"This methodology allows us to deliver systems management benefits to a larger percentage of our customer base by leveraging the core competencies of our Distribution Center and our ESM Development Center. We can increase delivery of systems management technology without increasing CompuCom's overhead. We can quickly deliver a tremendous, value-added technology boost to more of our customers while utilizing a superior cost model," stated Josh Gervey, CompuCom director of enterprise systems management services development.
"This gives us the ability to offer customers a solid methodology for ease of deployment," said David Hall, chief technology officer, CompuCom. "We pre-configure Unicenter TNG -- in some cases to pre-approved corporate standards -- within our Configuration Services Center and can then offer initialization or customization using TNG Remote Control. We can have the system active much sooner after delivery, which is of great benefit to the customer."
