SAN JOSE, Calif., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- SDL, Inc. (NASDAQ:SDLI) today formally introduced its first two laser marking systems based on its award-winning proprietary semiconductor laser pumped fiber laser technology. The two laser marking systems are a single head unit and a dual head unit. The dual head unit utilizes a split laser beam and two beam scanners in order to write two marks at the same time. The marking systems are utilized for laser inscribing logos, product type and serial numbers, product ratings, dates and product codes on a variety of packages. The first applications are primarily for marking packages and products in the semiconductor industry. Commenting on this announcement, SDL's chief executive officer, Donald R. Scifres, said, "We are very excited about the prospects for these new products in this fast growing market. We believe our marking systems are smaller, more reliable, more efficient and have a lower operating cost than competing lamp pumped solid state laser based marking systems. Customer response to the beta test site units delivered in the first quarter of 1998 has been extremely encouraging. These two new products are the first to be introduced by SDL which are based on the laser scanning technology acquired in the acquisition of Mr. Laser Inc. in December 1997." |
