>(1) I assume that this a good thing, since Divix is competitive format...right?

The "format" per say is sort of the same (as open DVD), it is just encrypted in a manner that allows the Divix people to control and charge you for additional viewing periods. In this way the studio maintains control of their movie. IMO it is competing for the DVD rental market. Most DVD enthusiasts dislike the Divx concept for a host of reasons but mainly because they see it as "big brother" control issue and if it was to succeed and all studios went with divx, then their current hardware (ie DVD player) would be worthless. Dixv players play both open DVD and Divx, while DVD players only play the so called "open DVD" format. As I have said before I think Divx will fail in the long run (years) but Nimbus is doing the right thing at this point...Support anything that involves DVD and can make them $.
The $100+ million that CC plans on using as the budget for advertising Divx is not going to hurt Nimbus and in the long run may even help open DVD buy making the masses aware of the technology.

>2) How many of the DVDs out there are manufactured by NMBS?

From todays announcement:
"Nimbus, which distinguished itself as one of the first compact disc replicators to offer DVD production services, is one of the world's largest independent manufacturers of DVDs, having already replicated nearly 2.5 million discs."
