jim--

i think DR. makes a very good point about the deployment at GTE ILEC and why it didnt go to WSTL. GTE is interested in getting started, they dont want to upgrade their backbone network immediately.

one point that does need to be addressed is the non-exclusivity of the contract, that is to say that WSTL will likely get some of the contract. and, we still have the clec.

this announcement really dissapointed me. i knew it was coming, had heard it for months, but i simply could not believe that WSTL would not get it. the one positive things is that i have not heard we lost BEL. believe me that is the big contract in north america.

a few things i would like to address:
1) the AMTX merger. this has been looked at as a negative from the beginning. what you and others have to understand is that WSTL didnt need the company. we got everything and more with the TXN partnership. the talking heads on wall st. place far too much importance on IP. bottom line, losing AMTX was GOOD.

2) these little ISP contracts. remember that in the early 80s sprint and MCI were nobodies. if the FCC does what it is supposed to do, these little guys will become big players in the local loop.

yes, execution at the company has been piss poor, but that is changing. what we have to do now is wait for them to show us results. if they dont, or if you want to get out, then by all means get out. so what if you miss the opportunity? there are so many good plays out there right now, why wait for WSTL? i know this sounds contradictory coming from me, but i can afford to wait, and that is exactly what i am going to do. but i realize it may be six months before the price is again above 15. if you dont want to wait, dont give yourself an ulcer over this. just get out and put the money somewhere else.

good luck to all,
trey
