Unless Jeff was pulling our leg (and why would he), he has told us "Novell's major accounts have been purchasing these products [IntranetWare, Groupwise, Managewise] at a record pace." All the naysayers who take some personal relish in overseeing the burial of Novell for whatever reason keep pointing to declining sales and revenue, but we all know that previous statistics have been skewed because of channel-stuffing, product changeover, etc. The doomsters are basing their perspective on old news, not what's happening right now. Even December results will not be an accurate portrayal of new-product success because of late-quarter product introduction. After the institutional tax-loss selling binge it becomes apparent the stock is not likely to recover until January unless the December report is a stunner, because now we run into individual tax-loss selling from here till 12/31. The usual pop just before the earnings announcement will likely be dampened this time because of this. But I would be stunned if there wasn't a New Year's pop. Even Vinod knows this is way oversold. Hang in there.
