I am thankful for the prosperity America as provided me--one which even allows me the opportunity to feel middle-class angst, and as importantly: the everpresent opportunity to assuage it by employing my wealth to help others. I am confident that were we in "the streets" spending the same time we devote to our erudite blather and wealth enhancement to serving (hands-on) those less fortunate than ourselves, we would likely be nauseated by the sight of ivory tower paens to the suffering of others. I love America because my immigrant mother told me I could grow up to be anything I wanted with hard work and dedication. She was right (I have), and I believe this reality still holds true for any American--regardless of their stripe. Yeah, I'm a soap box mounted flag waver--my father and many of my friends' fathers put their lives on the line to defend this country (even with its flaws) on more than one occasion. My respect for their service hasn't blinded me to America's shadows, but instead drew me toward her light.
