PC Quote will use the streaming audio/video system to display live, updated financial tickers on the Internet and intranets, and CNN will stream video, text and graphics. RealNetworks CEO Rob Glaser showed the latest upgrade to his company's product saying the new technology promises higher quality sound for dial-up users and new filtering techniques for improving video images. Content producers will be able to combine scrolling text with fonts and colors, high resolution images using transition effects, along with streaming audio, video, or even animation, he said. A preview release of RealSystem G2 is set for availability in May. In a conference speech after the product introduction, former Lotus Development Corp. CEO Mitch Kapor said he believes streaming media on the Net will be as important a medium as radio and television. Allen Weiner, director and chief analyst of market research firm Dataquest was also enthusiastic about the new system.
