kramesh, This makes sense-as I noted about Libya on this Thread about two days ago, Mr. Khaddafi faces internal opposition to his regime from the western Arab/Berber Mahgreb tribes in Libya.

He needs the extra dinero now to help underpin this challenge to his authority. Interstingly Mr. Khaddafi is actually one of the free thinkers in this area of the World- for e.g., he seeks equality in voting and in education for women, although he is fighting tribal traditions and starting with a low female literacy rate.

His opposition postures itself as islamic fundamentalists; but the opposition leadership lives in pretty nice digs in London- so who knows about that.... Both Egypt and Algeria are anxious to see Libya stable, especially as the one fundamentalist regime in the area, the NIF Government in the Sudan (which has backed rebellions in both Egypt and Algeria) seems to be losing its long guerilla war to the non-moslem Africans who make up 40% of the population base of the Sudan..... Don't now need a new fundamentalist threat to stability in the region...

Sincerely,

Doug F.

Sincerely,

Doug F.
