Bill, You used to be able to buy external fans to fit on Apples to get the heat out when they were loaded with cards . I think a fast Pentium uses 4-5 watts and the Pentium II can use over 10 watts. The small 5V fans they use take around 50 MA at 5V which is .25 watts. It is an added load and does shorten the computer hours/charge a little. They often have thermostatic sensors to minimize even that drain.
