Seeking to remake itself as a knowledge specialist, Verity, Inc. last week unveiled a tool kit fot developing Web-based applications that search for and retrieve data across distributed repositories.

The architecture of the Verity K2 toolkit supports simultaneous indexing of distributed indexing of distributed enterprise repositories and handles hundreds of concurrent queries and users, officials said.

Included in Verity's plans is the K2 Information Server, due in the seond half of the year.

Knowledge management is more than a search engine. Corps. have to be doing something now--the problem is trying to pick the right something," said David Yockelson, an analyst at Meta Group Inc. in Stamford, CT.
