Ok, Mr. Special Deliveryman, you want to give a source for this? Not that it seems that improbable, or particularly offensive for that matter. Anyway, if you've been following the myriad company lines on this, you'd know that the whole antitrust thing is a Nixon-era dirty trick orchestrated by Bill's enemies. As for the "we don't expect to win a suit", Netscape hasn't filed a suit, and has said they don't expect to, so how could they win one? On the federal level, most such actions lead to consent decrees, where winners and losers are ambiguous at best.
As an old line hearts and minds guy, I'd say Homer's close enough to the truth anyway. If Microsoft fights every action, there's not going to be any legal resolution anytime soon, the wheels of justice grind slowly. My view is if they just left the defense to the lawyers and laid off the "innovative" PR lines, Microsoft would come off better, but Bill and others disagree. As an avid follower of the OJ trial for technoweenies I approve of the Microsoft legal strategy completely, of course. Years of entertainment to come!
Cheers, Dan. |
