SPOT System Installed Ahead of Schedule; Digital Insertion Pays Off Early
MAYNARD, Mass., April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Completing installation of the SeaChange SPOT System well ahead of schedule in February, Media General Cable has launched digital advertising insertion in its Fairfax County, Va. system, serving one of the nation's most affluent markets. This marks SeaChange International, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: SEAC) first agreement with Media General Cable, which serves over 236,000 households in the northern Virginia suburbs of the Washington, D.C. DMA. Within two days, SeaChange's field installer prepared Media General's master control center, replaced headend tape decks with the SPOT System, and began encoding commercials into high-quality MPEG format and tested the initial traffic schedule. "Advertisers have already called us after seeing that we've improved the playback quality of spots that were originally analog," said Dwight Ward, director of operations, Mega Advertising Inc., Media General Cable's advertising subsidiary. "This new level of interest and excitement among our clients is a tribute to SeaChange's technology. And because we've streamlined the advertising process, we anticipate a significant increase in ad sales revenues." The SeaChange SPOT System enables Media General Cable to quickly administer advertising strategies with the control and reliability of digitally encoded MPEG-2 commercials, attracting more advertisers. The system archives up to 2,500 encoded spots in the master video library, allowing Media General Cable to make targeted ad placements instantaneously. In addition, SeaChange's digital insertion technology increased the potential reach of Media General Cable's advertising programs, expanding the Fairfax County system from 20 analog channels to 24 channels of automated digital insertion. Media General Cable now enjoys more advertising capabilities and valuable headend space that was reclaimed after permanent removal of 12 racks of analog equipment upon upgrading to digital. Founded in 1993, SeaChange International, Inc., of Maynard, Mass. (www.schange.com), is the leading provider of MPEG-2 digital video systems for television operators and telecommunications companies. SeaChange's products automate the management and distribution of short- and long-form video streams including advertisements, movies, news updates and other video programming requiring precise, accurate and continuous execution.
