Videon Cable TV Launches Digital Insertion With SeaChange Spot System

PR Newswire - April 29, 1998 09:56

Canadian MSO Capitalizes On Opportunity To Self-Promote

MAYNARD, Mass., April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- For the first time, Videon Cable
TV of Manitoba, Canada is doing digital insertion with the SPOT System from
SeaChange International, Inc. (Nasdaq: SEAC) to increase customer awareness of
its products and services. Videon now airs promotions for Canadian specialty
channels and its community programming channel. The Canadian cable operator
serves over 165,000 subscribers via 23 headends in Manitoba and northwestern
Ontario.
Prior to integrating the SeaChange SPOT System into its operations, Videon
was unable to cost-effectively leverage local spot insertion. Digital
operations now allow Videon to automatically record, store and play video
material without labor-intensive operation, cumbersome tape libraries,
expensive tape deck maintenance, and degradation in video quality of analog
systems. The SPOT System's simple user interface enables operators to quickly
and reliably control changes in video content and schedules, simplifying the
spot insertion process. The system has also proven equally effective for
long-form programming on Videon's infomercial channel.
"SeaChange's digital insertion system has improved our business by opening
new doors for on-air promotion. Installation was smooth, and now we're off
and running with a completely reliable and automated operation," said Sherry
Curnew, director of marketing and communications, Videon Cable TV.
Videon's promotional material is digitized in the industry standard MPEG-2
format by Capital Networks of Markham, Ontario. Capital Networks, a
distributor for SeaChange International, provides television operators with a
service for encoding analog video material onto digital media for schedule and
playback.
Founded in 1993, SeaChange International, Inc., of Maynard, Mass.
(www.schange.com), is the leading provider of MPEG-2 digital video systems for
television operators and telecommunications companies. SeaChange's products
automate the management and distribution of short- and long-form video streams
including advertisements, movies, news updates and other video programming
requiring precise, accurate and continuous execution. SeaChange's products
are installed in hundreds of geographic markets and serve approximately 14,000
television channels worldwide.
