On Intuit, AmExp, and Microsoft: Microsoft entering banking with Intuit was a possibility, and that this was Microsoft's long term goal is collaborated by Redmond's penchant at that time for hyping the potential $$$ in charge per transaction computing. But the main reason for DOJ objecting was that it gave Microsoft instant dominance of yet another sector in PC applications, a sector in which Microsoft's competing Money application was the leading competitor. Microsoft acknowledged this by its attempt to give away Money, but can any of you Microsoft advocates claim with a straight face that Money in the hands of Novell (or whoever) would be effective competition for Quicken in the hands of Microsoft? Cheers, Dan.
