That was an eloquent post. Like you, I have been lurking in several threads, but I did not want to add to the clutter. Some members of SI have hundreds of posts, none of which contribute any value. Sometimes when I check a thread, there are over 100 new posts. It's very time consuming to read all of them in order to find the posts that contain substantive information. I appreciate all the unknown lurkers who have refrained from posting just for the heck of it.

It would be unfair to base grandfathering on quantity of posts and it is impracticable to judge the quality of over 4 million messages. The only reasonable thing to do is to honor the promise of lifetime membership.
