It [DELL] may go up 100% in the next 12 months, but it may go down 50% in the next 12 months. CPQ could go up 30-50% with down side of the mid to lower 20's, about a down 20-30% move.

I'm always more than a bit skeptical of these kinds of prognostications. Please ignore the vagaries of the market for the moment focus on some reasonable business risk scenarios. For example, suppose (for the sake of argument), that Compaq announces that earnings will either be non-existent or minimal for the rest of the year (possible). Or suppose that the US government decides to replace all of its older computers right now because of embedded chip y2k problems. Why do you think that Compaq would be a bigger beneficiary of such windfall purchasing?
