I agree. I recently had some battles with Mkting, as they came up with a dumb name for my product. Company and product names should be simple, clever, and either easy to associate (DevelopMentor, Microsoft), or non-related to business (Java, Apple, Yahoo, etc). If you have to explain what your name means, then odds are it is a bad name. THe best names are ones that stick with you. The name "Yahoo" is familiar, easy to remember, and well associated with the net. While not wanting to start an argument, I would suggest that it is the name recognition that has driven Yahoo into the stratosphere more than anything else.

Regarding InPrise, I have kin folk in Ky. (with very interesting family trees). 'Inprise' sounds like one of my cousins, trying to say enterprise.
