Brooks,
Wait till you see CyberTrader!! Many built-in features that you will love. There are so many features I cannot begin to describe them. But it makes trading any other way comparatively primitive and risky. Hoping not to offend anyone, let me just say that CyberTrader has many sophisticated features to help your trading and you must see it to understand. Perhaps you can visit a SOES firm in your area that uses it and get an idea that way.
Basically, Datek allow you to (sometime) submit your orders. But you cannot choose how the order is routed and it takes a while to get a confirmation. And their are numerous problems and errors and you cannot even reach them to discuss, usually. If you've ever dealt with the IRS, then you know already how it is to deal with Datek. Same kind of pleasure <g>.
CyberTrader lets you really "see" what the market is doing, particularly to the stock you are watching or trading at the moment. You can get in and out with a profit more easily than any other way I know.
You do not need anything other than CyberTrader, except for a web browser (e.g., Netscape) to watch various chatrooms or internet news services. And, soon, CyberTrader will include it's own news service, and I have heard it may be provided free or at minimal cost. Great feature. I can't wait to see it.
Hope this answers your questions.
