Two Tokyo Credit Unions Go With Compaq Data-Warehousing

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Two local credit unions, Tama Chuo Shinkin Bank and Kawasaki Shinkin Bank, have recently acquired data-warehousing systems marketed in Japan by Compaq KK, the Japanese arm of U.S.-based Compaq Computer Corp, Nikkei Financial Daily reports in its Thursday edition.

The two credit unions are the first in the industry to adopt the data-warehousing systems that big Japanese banks have been using.

Kawasaki Shinkin Bank will use its system to allow branch staff to access client data. The credit-union sector, which specializes in servicing small businesses, relies on intimate knowledge of clients in particular localities.

The systems purchased by the two credit unions are each anchored by a massive parallel-server made by Tandem Computers Inc., which Compaq Computer acquired last year.
