A friend here at work has done an initial evaluation of the phones and he is favorably impressed. THIS IS ALL SECONDHAND (!). He hasn't yet brought in a phone for me to see. I believe him to be trustworthy, however.

He reported that the screen is a high contrast black and white with no readability problems. The software in the unit is apparently written by Microsoft. It is button based rather than windowed. He reports that the pen has a soft touch and tracks accurately on the screen. Handwriting recognition worked well. The unit itself is relatively large and includes an internal fan.

The capability he was most impressed with was the ability to easily connect two units over a phone line. Apparently the modems worked well and there were no glitches with the connection or the operation of the software in that mode. He also reported that the phone may be interfaced to a PC easily for data transfer. Apparently he tested this with no problems.

I hope shortly to see the units firsthand.
