Ian, thanks for passing that along. I've gotta assume that Core just isn't that familiar with the Mac because it was very odd to not have Tomb Raider on the Mac. 17 out of the top 20 games of 1996 have made it to the Mac and TR was the most glaring omission.

Alomex, you're getting some good answers to your questions. I can only add that the G3s, Apple's return to financial good health, and software like Office '98, Allegro, and yes, Tomb Raider, will keep the upgrade rate high. I think the fence-sitters will now begin to upgrade--the people who bought the first PowerMacs in 1994 and have been waiting ever since. I know people like that who are now just waiting for the new laptops, etc. And all my former poor college student friends with Quadras are getting ready for more speed and will eventually upgrade. Mac professionals upgrade all the time, Mac home users take their time.

As for the software, it is a worry of mine. I think if Apple doesn't get some sort of convergence with Windows by 1999, then the Mac is doomed and sales will slip below two million a year.

SGI isn't a worry. It (and Sun) should be worried about Apple.

Marq, funny post.

Phil, I'm not sure if anything should be read into the HP announcement. From what I've read they are big pals with Microsoft, selling their soul for NT, etc. I don't think there's any real wedge for Apple to jump into. Of course, never underestimate S. Jobs either.

Marc
