I'm sure they do, and I'm sorry but I have not seen the original reference. I just saw a comment on this thread and gave my opinion. All I can say is that in all of my years dealing with satellites, I have never heard anyone worry about meteorite showers, other than the microscopic dust particles that can be protected against. There are a lot of worries, increasingly, about space junk in lower orbits, and once a shuttle windshield was hit by a paint chip. There may have been one or two other incidents. So I suppose if someone wants to worry about meteroite showers they can, but there's a lot more I would worry about first. Like this secondary offering and Orbcomm :-)
