Another trick, which I did last year about this time, was to go to www.edgar-online.com, and search for all 10k's filed 15 days late. Edgar online has suitable filters for doing this, and for free. These are companies that filed an NT-10k to get extra time. My idea was that 3 months is enough, so if they need extra time, there's a good chance they have poor financial controls or trouble with the audit. Looking through a dozen or so 10k's, I found a couple that I ended up shorting. It worked well. I don't have time this year, though.
