X, obviously the people who really didn't mind slavery very much, or see it in its historical context, are not as disappointed to be Americans as I am. I realize there were slaves in many other cultures as well, but few in times as modern as 150 years ago. Many slaves in older cultures were treated better, and were able to buy their freedom eventually, as well. Even when we freed the slaves, we treated ex-slaves and their descendants very badly for a very long time. I think we still are doing that.
So we just have different opinions. Karma is kind of a religious concept, and some people don't believe in it at all. Some people may believe in the concept, but, like you, do not believe it applies in this case. I believe that it does. I do think we could right the wrong we committed, with apologies, reparations, and a basic fresh start, and clean up our karma, but I do not think that will happen. |
