Mary, Your comments are a bit similar to those I heard years ago about PC's making mainframes junk by 1990! I spent 18 years fixing MVS I/O bugs and have an indepth understanding of the channel subsystem in the mainframe world. From an I/O point of view, and a RAS point of view, I agree with Tony and others that it will be much longer than 2001! Merced is just a piece of the puzzle, operating system software is the other key, and NT is not MVS at this point. The final piece as mentioned before is the amount of legacy software out there that literally runs the Fortune 500. John
