This was my understanding too, actually--on all non-odd-lot orders. But while I always seem to get this immediately with Datek, it doesn't seem to happen with Waterhouse. Hmmm... I have split the spread with Waterhouse a couple times. The quote reflected my order right away. The size on the bid/ask matched the size of my order.
