I don't understand why MO even considered settling with
anyone. I would have run a massive PR campaign on TV
reminding Congress, the States and the pubic at large
that this is a company that pays more taxes than anyone,
a firm that employs a staggering amount of people directly
and indirectly. Trying to destroy this company or fine
it to death would be counterproductive indeed.
I'm sick and tired of people who don't take responsibility
for their own actions. People who smoke all their lives
and blame the tobacco companies for their problems.
Legislators that severely tax these companies and want to
"double dip" for medical reimbursements. Politicians that
want to "protect" my kids from cigarettes. If the worse
things my kids ever do is smoke cigarettes, I'll be pleased.
I used to own MO. I sold when the company started pursuing
the flawed policy of "settlement". Wall Street analysts
promised a higher multiple, while attorneys took their
fees-Geoffrey Bible fell for this. I'll buy shares in this
company again when they say-we're not settling anything
with anyone-when MO starts reminding people about the jobs
they create and the tax revenue they generate. When MO
realizes that fighting for the ideals of the pursuit of
happiness, freedom of speech, and personal responsibility
will bring the company a higher multiple.
