Paul, Alan Greenspan obviously knows that the CPI is a fairy tale. Allowing another central bank type to dispute the validity of the CPI is another signal of a long overdue credit tightening. How he can ignore the history of the Japanese stock market bubble which saw it's origin in a loose monetary policy is a mystery to me.

Speaking of easy credit, my medical assistant recently bought a truck for 18,000$ and the dealership was pushing one for 23,000$. She is a single mother of three with one chid on medicaid due to kidney problems. Child support is non-existent from a dead-beat father. Her annual salary is barely 12,000$ and she had no problem getting the truck loan. In my opinion this qualifies as excessive credit. However, it is a nice truck, and a Toyota for the matter.

Terry,
