Yes, it's a great company, but we have to be critical as well as Apple. The lack of forethought to issues such as those mentioned are what put Apple in it's current predicament.
Sure, but Capt. Steve wasn't at the helm either. It's tough to know how Apple might have been different if Jobs had stayed at Apple. All of his successors managed to run the company into the ground, even John Sculley, the original man who forced Jobs out.
Do I think anyone else could have turned Apple around so quickly? No way. Gil Amelio just wasn't up to task of the needed cost cutting , and it's very unlikely had clones been allowed to continue that Apple would be making a profit even now. As much as he plays the martyr in his current book, and takes credit for starting the processes for which Jobs is reaping praise (some of it deservedly so), in no way is he better than Jobs for the role. I don't know anyone with a better understanding of the technology or a better ability to rally the troops than Steve Jobs.
Last year I was wishing Jobs would get the hell out of Apple. He'd axed the clones, the stock was at an all-time low, and he had made a questionable deal with the Evil Empire! However, I've since changed my tune, as the positive results have since proven him out. The future looks bright indeed. |
