The NPCS 2-way data capability is now being provided also by RAM and ARDIS. The cellular is slowly getting into the Superphone which provides the capability with or without CDPD And then there is the Iridium's and Orbcomm's (which will cater to the more lucrative 2 - way paging stuff among others] I am not trying to say that GEMS is doomed in any way. They have good products. But, with the way paging is going and with all the new stuff coming in, it will be getting tough (Yesterday's Wall Street Journal carried an article on the 7 cellular providers in Jacsonville, FL fighting out to death]
