>> Did you see the stats for March new housing starts? <<

Sergio the following is from the home sales report today for those who didn't see it. No one really expected them to match February's great numbers but not many expected them to beat last March's numbers either. The part of the report below shows that they probably did. This should bode well for the housing industry. I think we saw some of that to day.

"Sales of new one-family houses in March 1998 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 828,000, according to estimates released today by the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of the Census and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This is 5 (+/-7) percent below the revised February rate of 872,000, but 1 (+/-8) percent above the March 1997 rate of 823,000."

>>what do you make of the DWYR news?<<

Did I call that or what? I think the news is very good. Management has sold off the 2 divisions that weren't as profitable and have added another one that appears will be very profitable. I really like the direction management is going with this company. We still ahve earnings coming out in the next couple of weeks. I look for them to be very good. Even the expenses for selling and acquiring will not show
this quarter. They will virtually have a full quarter of acretive earnings to offset any related costs. Wether they planned it that way or not, it was a perfect move!

>>The Banc One deal could be worth a 15% market share for APCO.
Is that right? From less than 2% now to 15%? <<

Earlier on this thread and the APCO thread I posted that the Bank One deal could be huge! No one really cared to comment, so I have just been quitely adding to my APCO position. I'll settle for just an additional 2% :>)

There is more coming from APCO. I think I will post additional thoughts and info when I update our info on our website. Hopefully this weekend.
