<< TOKYO (Nikkei)-The Japanese government's latest economic-stimulus package will bolster the rate of growth in the country's nominal gross domestic product by 1.8 percentage points in fiscal 1998, according to an estimate by the Japan Center for Economic Research.

The center predicts that the over 16 trillion yen of pump-priming measures will boost real economic growth by the same increment. Given the nation's deteriorating economy, however, the center said a real economic growth rate of only around 1% for fiscal 1998 is likely. >>

Had not seen real GDP below zero, however, Nikkei keep on sliding. So, they are not related. I'd rather see negative GDP with positive Nikkei gain for the past 10 years.
