David, the problem with starting a different forum for discussion of every significant topic is that all of a sudden there are hundreds of threads to follow, and not enough time to do that. I can think of a lot of very good threads that have been archived because people stopped posting to them. And they were very, very good threads, with interesting people and very good writing, about interesting subjects.

While it is totally appropriate to have a poetry thread, a very short story thread, and different places that various cliques call "home", electronically speaking, I have always attempted to keep the Feelings thread extremely general in the sense of what it is okay to discuss here. Del, in particular, is very interested in science, and I think some others are as well. I guess what I am saying is that it is very appropriate to discuss nuclear energy, and concerns about nuclear pollution, here.

Everyone obviously has their own opinion. My feelings about irradiated food have to do more with freshness than anything else. Doesn't irradiation extend shelf life? I am aware that, somewhat like microwaving, the nasties are not absorbed by the food. But do irradiated foods retain all of the vitamins and the exact chemical composition of what they were before? There is much that we do not yet know about all the healing and regenerative effects of fruits and vegetables on the body, in the sense of how everything works, and for that reason it makes more sense to me to eat them in an organic, non-irradiated state.
