Jim Mcmannis, Under normal conditions I would agree sell AMD before they ship or concurrent with the first shipment, before the reality of competition sets in. However for the first I think doing so may actually be counter producitve. For the first time in history of AMD it is finally in a position to have it's own niche in the market under conditions which Intel can do little or nothing about it. Clereon sucks, MMX is dead, Intel has no competive ofeerings nothing like 3-d so if 3-d is a hit AMd could finally score. k-7 specs out as another winner and Intel merced is planned for high end servers. so AMd could finally have some easier pickings in the desktop arena. It's too early to tell. One thing for sure is Intel will have the Gov breathing down it's neck for the next 18 months. This could have a moderating effect on Intel and pricecutting again ultimatly helping AMD suceed. One smart thing the japaneese gov did with memory technology was to insist that the technology be made available to all Japaneese companies. The US is just borrowing a page from the Japansses play book by rewriting the dec Intel alpha deal by insisting the technology is available to AMD. NSM I beleive would have access through present cross licence agreement.
