contract, contract, more contracts ..... Ascend gets $20 million contract with DBN ST. LOUIS, April 29 (Reuters) - Ascend Communications Inc. and Digital Broadcast Network Corp. said Wednesday they signed an agreement for Ascend to provide more than $20 million in equipment for DBN's planned telecommunications network linking 28 U.S. and Canadian cities. The contract is for the rollout of an Internet Protocol-based network, which will be used for voice, video and and high-speed data. DBN will provide both local and long-distance telephone service on the network, as well as access to the Internet and other networks. The company will target large corporations. DBN said that although the network is based on Internet technology, it will be able to connect to traditional phone lines. DBN said the first part of the network will be completed by September 1 and ready for commercial service in mid-September. Shares of Ascend were up 1-1/4 at 43-1/4.
