Pioneer Natural Resources Company Chairman Jon Brumley to Alter

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 8, 1998--Pioneer Natural Resources Company (''Pioneer'') (NYSE:PXD - news;
TSE:PXD - news) announced today that, effective May 15, 1998, Chairman Jon Brumley will be retiring from his day-to-day

and the wealth of opportunities that we have created.''

Sheffield, President and CEO, said, ''With the recent announcement of Pioneer's 1998 strategic initiatives, Jon requested the
flexibility to continue in a non-executive capacity. This change will give him the opportunity to pursue other entrepreneurial
endeavors.''
