MSFT: Attorneys general from 13 states are in the final stages of
preparing a joint antitrust action against MICROSOFT CORP
(Wednesday's close 90-1/2), the New York Times reported. Several
of the state officials told the paper they are prepared to proceed
without the U.S. Justice Department, which has its own probe of
the world's largest software maker, although they would rather act
in conjunction with the federal agency. The states plan to act
quickly because Microsoft plans to begin shipping the next version
of its ubiquitous Windows operating system - Windows 98 - to
personal computer makers in May and release it to the general
