Intel cuts prices on mobile processors
SAN FRANCISCO, April 28 (Reuters) - Intel Corp said it cut prices on its Pentium and Pentium II processors for mobile computers, ranging from eight percent up to 42 percent.
The price cuts for mobile computing chips come just two weeks after Intel cut prices on some of its desktop processors, which it did at the time it launched its two fastest versions of the Pentium II on April 15.
Intel cut prices for its 266 megahertz and 233 megahertz version of the Pentium II for mobile computers, processors that the chip giant just launched on April 2.
''The timing of these price moves gives us the flexibility to meet the individual needs of the mobile market segment,'' Intel said in a statement.
Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intel cut the price of the 266 megahertz version Pentium II with a mini-cartridge to $637 from $696 in quantities of 1,000 units, an eight percent drop. Intel cut the price of its 233 megahertz Pentium II for mobile PCs to $391, from $466 previously, a 16 percent drop.
Intel also cut the prices on its Pentium chips with MMX technology for mobile computers. For example, it cut the 266 megahertz version of the Pentium Mobile with MMX by 25 percent to $348, from $466 previously, in quantities of 1,000.
The 233 megahertz version of the Pentium Mobile with MMX was dropped 41 percent to $213, from $359 previously and the 200 megahertz version of the Pentium Mobile with MMX was dropped 42 percent to $134 from $230 previously. |
