I agree but your friend seemed to think that was attractive given the state of the economy and market. Twenty years ago, people used to buy it like crazy as an inflation hedge but today most investors are more sophisticated and use currencies as hedges, notably the Swiss franc or Mark.

We are becoming more of a service economy and we have seen upward pressure on wages, 4.4% growth yr/yr by the BLS jobs report but I think the pressure is from the technology sector and not the general service sector. I think that some tech business is categorized into the service sector, software primarily, and this is where the wage pressures lie. But if the producers are not able to pass it through to the prices received, and that is really difficult, then we might just stay in the same interest rate range we've been in for awhile.
Kind of a comfortable, not complacent, place to be isn't it?
