The hell they are? Did you even follow the link to bytes site to see how they are done? Both integer and floating point are tested. Anywy, the "real world" tests of floating point are even better. The PowerPC has always had a very signficant lead in FP performance.

Yes, the design used in the io subsystems is superior in the macintosh. This is due to the fact that they can create custom asics and make the OS machine specific to some extent. You cannot do this on the PC side as everytthing comes from a different vendor and speaks a different "standard". Once you get the data off of the scsi drive, how you get it into memory, what you put in memory, and how you move it around inside the computer is a competitive advantage for Apple and improves performace beyond the microprocessor. A really fast microprocessor strapped to a slow bus (like you have in most discount PCs) is not a fast computer. You have to optimize both.
