Norm,

"The direct effect on the U.S. economy of a delay to Windows 98 would be considerable. More than 2 million Americans, for instance, develop software that runs on Windows, while a similar number work in the computer services industry,.."

Isn't it pathetic how any and every wrong headed argument is being used here? It reminds me of clinical descriptions of how addicts think. I.e., all reality is rationalized into a means and justification for the next high.

I'd venture to say the every member of "Team Microsoft", myself included (30 million strong and growing?), would have to spend at least 2 weeks fooling around with this stuff once we install it and try to convert our applications. If I add that time to the time used up in learning "new" features, fixing new/old bugs, dealing with incompatibility issues, and of course the high prices charged by the IT consulting inductry. My guess is that Windows98 would be a net minus for overall national productivity.

Of course MS would make money, isn't that more important than anything?
