Mond Industries Inc MII
Shares issued 28,605,000 Apr 30 close $0.70
Fri 1 May 98 News Release
Mr. Pat DiLillo reports
For the three months ended Mar. 31, 1998, revenues were $29.2-million
compared with $18.7-million for the three months ended Mar. 31, 1997. Net
profit for the period was $485,648 compared with a net loss of $449,815.
Net profit per share was 1 cent compared with a net loss per share of 1
cent.
The transitional phase that occurred last year during the company's
consolidation of the primary manufacturing lines under one roof at its
plant in Mississauga is now over.
The market for Mond trailers is very strong. The order book totals
$30-million. The company's emphasis for the rest of the year will be on
cost-cutting, productivity and enhancement of gross margins, in addition of
course, to continuing its marketing efforts.
Improved industry-wide pricing, which began last year, has not dampened the
market for Mond trailers and chassis. Unit sales, for example, reached
1,069 in the first quarter of 1998 compared with 697 in the first quarter
of 1997.
The company has targeted several areas of planned improvement in both
material and labor costs, which will have a beneficial effect on unit costs
and productivity. Some of the changes are already being addressed. Now that
the relocation process is fully complete, the production line fine tuning
that began last year will build momentum in 1998. The focus on product
quality, efficient throughput and inventory control sequencing during the
year is expected to have a positive effect on profitability.
The outlook for the second quarter is for continued performance improvement
from the point of view of both revenues and earnings.
