Dish Network Lowers DBS-Hardware Prices
Littleton, Colo. -- EchoStar Communications Corp. Thursday announced a new retail promotion, "The Best Dish Deal Ever," lowering the cost of entry for new Dish Network direct-broadcast satellite customers to $149.
The promotion, which starts Friday and runs through June, addresses common barriers of entry, such as the cost of installation and second receivers.
For the promotion, EchoStar lowered the price of its most basic DBS system to $149, including a free self-install kit. New subscribers can choose professional installation instead for $99. Additional receivers sell for as little as $99.
Programming credits of up to $60 lower the upfront costs to $89, the company said in a press release. New subscribers receive two months of free "America's Top 40" ($40 value) or "America's Top 60 CD" ($60) programming by submitting a certificate with their first Dish Network bills. In the "Unbeatable Deal" promotion, which ran through April, new customers had to submit a recent cable bill to take advantage of the programming credit.
EchoStar has historically taken the lead in driving down the cost of DBS hardware. While price cuts push back the breakeven point for DBS companies, most of them consider it a good risk if the cuts help to speed up the pace of subscriber acquisitions. |
