I'm glad you took my attempt at humor as it was intended. Coincidently, when my wife is not otherwise occupied, she is a contract programmer with a major railroad, involved in their Y2K problem solving efforts. She says they're on track and should have plenty of time to test their solutions before the big event. I'm admittedly pretty ignorant on the whole situation, but I do enjoy this thread and the diversity of opinion. I'm not sure how one could prepare for some of the worst-case scenarios suggested here, but some basic planning seems reasonable. I guess it would be prudent to have plenty of groceries and beer on hand, some extra cash in case the ATMs get finicky, and plenty of batteries (always abundant here). Avoiding travel for those first few days seems reasonable. If the power grid does fail, and I find my flashlight is not Y2K compliant, I can always follow my ears through the darkness to that familiar buzzing sound, snuggle up with my wife, and spend a romantic evening watching TV by candlelight. Best Wishes All. Tim
