PairGain To Debut LAN-To-LAN Access Technology
www5.zdnet.com
Telecommunications provider PairGain Technologies Inc. on May 4 will introduce Campus-HRS, a suite of remote access products that let businesses set up high-speed links between remote offices using standard copper telephone wiring. The Campus-HRS (HDSL Rate Selectable) product line is based on PairGain's High-Speed Digital Subscriber Line (HDSL) technology. The equipment can be used to create links between two or more local area networks located at remote sites. In addition, the technology could be employed to extend a private branch exchange network or for Internet access, according to PairGain officials.
The flexible nature of Campus-HRS enables enterprises to adjust the bandwidth of the high-speed lines in increments of 64 kilobits per second, allowing network managers to create interoffice links that range in size from 64 Kbps to 2.3 megabits per second. As with most xDSL-based products, deployment is limited to relatively short distances and performance is affected by the length of the connection.
