About the guy with 120 seeds that was told to stay away from his pregnant daughter. You must be kidding. It' stories such as these that give good products a bad rap. This is a fish tale.

We are talking about weak gamma here using I-125 or Pd-103 and with 120 seeds at 0.5mCi each, 60 mCi (milli Curies) tops for the full number of seeds, decreasing by 50% with each half life, this is simply ridiculous. The gamma has to penetrate the prostate tissue, external tissue as well as move across an air space and enter the womb again through tissue of the mother. Remember too that the advantage seeds have over external beam radiation is that they cause virtually no damage to surrounding organs or tissue so affecting a pregnant lady is simply absurd. The fetus is susceptible to radiation during a two week window in the first trimester and it has to be pretty direct exposure not the type you would find from seeds.
