Bearded One - Are you in the beta program for NT5? We have been in the beta on NT development for every release since the first one. Each one is 'way more complicated' than the last. My sense is that NT5 is in at least as good a shape as any of the others were at this stage of development. I could see a slip from 4Q98 to 1Q99 (in fact I think this is likely). But I can't see anything that would push it any farther than 2Q99. I agree there will be a couple of service packs before it gets fully squared up, what else is new. It's REAL big. Right. Most of that is from the increased use of tools and compiler options which generate code which is optimized for speed rather than size. Also there are lots of components plugged into the OS which were layered before. Nothing really scary. If we want to talk about bloatware, look at what's happened to Office!! As far as keeping ahead of Merced, I think that even if it does get delayed until 2000 it will still be ahead of Merced. Those guys are not even to tape out and based on previous performance I would bet a couple of cold ones that volume product is summer 2000 at the earliest. Can I assume from your last comment that you are taking a significant long position in Novell?
