Michael, you obviously do not know much about Ireland. It has the most booming economy in Europe, the highest-rated educational system, and is dropping the patriarchal religious attitudes of the past as people flee the Catholic church and the state becomes more secular. I have no intention of arguing about where I prefer to live, which is a family decision. However, I will say that anywhere in rural America where land is still affordable is quite likely to have very conservative Christians living there, the militia movement and perhaps other white supremacists, lots of guns, and all sorts of things I personally do not choose to live around. I certainly would not presume to tell anyone else where they should live, so I'm puzzled that anyone would do that to me.

Most of the nations of Europe have just gone to a new monetary system this week. It makes the combined European economy larger than that of the United States. I think the U.S. is actually a declining country, even though we are still affluent, because we are unable to solve huge problems like racism, the differences between the haves and have nots, and violence in our society. Nor do we prioritize children here, which is a huge mistake for a society to make if it wants to be a stable and healthy place. My daily inner enjoyment of life is linked strongly to being pretty sure no one in our family will be shot to death, and most European countries have very strict gun laws and very low rates of violent deaths. That gives me a lot of peace of mind, really.

I notice you are still talking about the fraud in Medicare, but did not mention fraud and waste in the military. What was the figure for that this year? Two entire ships are missing, so I suspect it is pretty high. Do you support Medicare as a concept, incidentally?
