is it Sun vs. Microsoft or Sun vs. SGI, DEC, HP, DG, DEC, Sequent etc...?

when Scott rails against Microsoft he is doing the same things Avis did to Hertz or Pepsi to Coke - there not trying to put those guys out of business but everyone else. Sun has grabbed incredible mind share not only with java but with Solaris as the mid-high end - ISV's are only porting to a few platforms and Scott has positioned Sun as the other Platform vs. NT. When an IT manager throws up his hand in frustration of managing 100's of servers running Exchange who is he/she going to think of as the alternative to Microsoft? Sun technology is years ahead of Microsoft and its breaking out even further. With the internet and e-commerce exploding everyone understand what 24x7 reliability means. They know what it means when a web server crashes like when MSNBC (NT) crashed but CNN (Sun) did not during election night. I even read about a small company connecting a mainframe(!) to the internet, thats how important reliability is.

Scott is brilliant - you may not like him, but neither does Bill Gates.
